Full Job Description
We are looking for a practical, organised and enthusiastic Photography Technician to support our growing Photography provision within the School of Art & Design.
Working alongside photography lecturers and students, you will play an important role in maintaining our specialist facilities and ensuring learners have access to the equipment, materials and technical support they need to produce ambitious photographic work.
The role will involve preparing and maintaining cameras, lenses, lighting, studio equipment and photographic resources, supporting practical studio sessions, managing equipment loans and returns, monitoring stock and helping maintain safe, organised and professional working environments.
You will provide practical technical guidance to students, helping them use photographic equipment confidently and safely while encouraging them to become increasingly independent.
Knowledge of DSLR/mirrorless cameras, studio flash and continuous lighting, photographic studios and digital photographic workflows is important. Experience of darkroom processes, photographic printing, Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom or other specialist photographic processes would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone who is approachable, patient, organised and technically confident, enjoys working with young people and can explain practical processes clearly.
This would suit a practising photographer, photography graduate, studio assistant, photographic technician or someone working within the photographic industry who would enjoy supporting the next generation of creative practitioners.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team within a large department where maintaining high levels of performance is expected.
This is a part-time role working 15 hours per week (0.4fte) at our Watford Campus.
You'll have the full support of a dynamic team and opportunities to bring your ideas to the role. Training and development are at the heart of everything we do so you'll be encouraged to upskill.
You can access a wide range of discounts and benefits including a cycle to work scheme, free on-site parking, pension, generous holiday scheme, time off at Christmas and early finishes on a Friday.
WHC Group is positive about disabled people. If you need help applying for the role, please contact the Human Resources team.
