In addition: The postholder will work closely with the SENDCo, Deputy SENDCos, pupils, classroom teachers/supervisors, teaching assistants, and parents to support pupils' learning, development, and wellbeing. Purpose: The main purpose of this role is to support and help lead the delivery of sports within the School PE Department, promoting participation, development, and achievement in physical education and sporting activities. In addition, the role is to support pupils with a range of special educational needs and assist teaching staff in their responsibility for the development, education, and inclusion of children with special educational needs. The PE and SEN Department The PE Department is a forward-thinking, enthusiastic and innovative department which is now seeking a like-minded person, to continue to develop PE and sport provision across the whole school whilst increasing capacity in the SEND team. The PE department has some of the best facilities within the county: a newly refurbished sports hall, a fully equipped fitness suite, numerous playing fields, including a grass cricket wicket and full access to a tartan all weather athletics track. Since becoming a co-educational school in September 2018, sports facilities have also been enhanced with the construction of a new hard-court area (housing 4 netball and 4 tennis courts) and a new sports pavilion. The staffing structure currently consists of a Director of Sport (Amy Leask), a Head of Boys' sport (Tom Farmer), and two male and one female full time PE teachers. We also rely on other teaching staff to support our games curriculum and extra-curricular programme. An extensive and varied curriculum allows students the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, across a large number of sporting activities, within Key Stage 3 & 4. This is supported by a high number of students opting to study PE at GCSE and A Level. Results at both GCSE and A Level have been outstanding for some years, with many students going on to study PE and sport at university. We are confident that this ethos for mass opportunities and challenging students to excel will continue to grow with the appointment of a highly motivated teacher, girls' PE. Extracurricular provision underpins the success of this thriving department, with endless opportunities and competitive fixtures across many sports. There are a large range of trips, which are led by members of the department, including the annual ski trip and sports tours such as rugby and netball to South Africa. The School is very proud of the enrichment opportunities students can access, especially as students' learning and development goes far beyond the classroom. The PE department has a huge responsibility to uphold this ethos but, more importantly, it is essential that the department continues to grow and challenge what is done on a daily basis to ensure PE remains at the very centre of our busy school life. The SEN team work together in a bespoke office when not supporting pupils in lessons. The SEN department consists of SENDCo, two Deputy SENDCo's and dedicated teaching assistants.
