Full Job Description

a) Carry out security procedures for school buildings and grounds ensuring gates and doors are locked as required to ensure the safeguarding of students and staff on site.

b) Undertake routine and non-routine opening and closing of school premises and grounds, including evening and weekend lettings as required and agreed by the Headteacher.

c) Prevent trespass on the school premises or grounds and ensuring that unauthorised parking of vehicles does not occur.

d) Ensure access is available to the gas pressure chamber and main gas tap.

2. LIGHTING AND HEATING

a) Operate the heating plant in accordance with the Council's issued instructions and endeavour to ensure that required temperatures are maintained in school premises and that an adequate supply of hot water is available.

b) Carry out frost precaution procedures

c) Maintain the boiler house and plant in clean and tidy order and carry out routine maintenance work as and when required.

d) Report any problems to the Headteacher / School Business Manager, who will inform an LEA officer, usually property maintenance.

e) Ensure that inflammable materials are kept out of the boiler room and away from any radiators.

f) Periodically check fuel consumption and report cases of higher fuel consumption than normal.

g) Replace light fittings if necessary and arrange for defects in the lighting or heating system to be dealt with.

h) Provide FCC with regular readings of utility meters.

3. CLEANING

a) Caretakers will be expected to perform duties as laid down in the

cleaning frequency chart for a proportion of the working week.

4. MAINTENANCE

a) Identify any repairs or maintenance work required at the school.

b) Carry out minor or temporary repairs.

c) Direct workers or contractors to the site of repair and maintenance work.

d) Carry out routine procedures or inspection of ancillary equipment such as checking automatic pumps in areas subject to flooding.

5. SUPERVISION

a) Supervise any contractors on site including checking they have a current DBS if works are taking place during the school day.

b) Supervise and allocate work to the school cleaners in the absence of the Cleaning Manager.

c) Monitor the cleaners' work to maintain standards in the absence of the Cleaning Manager.

6. MONITORING OF CONTRACTORS' WORK

a) Monitor the work carried out by all contractors in accordance with the procedure laid down by the Authority including grounds maintenance.

7. STOREKEEPING

a) Take delivery of stores, materials and other goods and store them.

b) Despatch goods, materials etc, from the school.

c) Ensure that adequate supplies of fuel and cleaning materials are available.

d) Ensure that caretaking and cleaning equipment used by the Caretakers
