Full Job Description
Overall Duties: To carry out general painting and decorating in connection with all aspects of building repair and maintenance in College premises. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: The following is not a finite list of duties but provides an outline of the types of typical tasks that you will be required to carry out on a day to day basis.
- Internal Decoration - Prepare and re-decorate internal areas of College buildings, including painting/papering walls, ceilings and painting joinery items. External Decoration - Prepare and re-decorate external items of joinery and steelwork, including windows, doors, barge boards, fascia, soffits and railings etc. Patch Repair - Re-decorate small areas of walls, ceilings and joinery following repairs/replacement by other trade staff. Glazing - Remove broken glass and replace with new, including cutting glass sheets to size and fitting glass to new items of joinery i.e. doors and windows. New Joinery - Prepare and seal, prime undercoat and gloss or stain new items of purpose made joinery.
- Assist in the production of a variety of items associated with the running of the College e.g. signs, theatrical stage scenery etc. Liaise with other trades in the Estates Team to ensure the successful completion of projects and general maintenance to a high standard. Liaising with the Estates Manager or Estates Supervisor regarding additional work by other trades, and/or contractors which may be necessary. Alteration of existing equipment and fittings to enable other trades to work. Completion of job paperwork (paper or electronic) accurately and in a timely manner. Participate in standby rota for emergency call outs if required to do so. Ensure safe and efficient use of all machinery, materials and tools used in connection with job role and follow safe working practices at all times. Skills and Experience: Ideally you will come from a multi-site background with a wide experience of painting and decorating in a range of domestic and commercial premises. Essential: City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 or equivalent trade qualification in painting and decorating. Experience of erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms. Technical skills to carry out duties to a satisfactory standard and an acceptable level of productivity. You will be a good team worker with an outlook that is responsive and positive in a rapidly-changing environment. Flexible approach to working hours and duties is essential. An understanding and awareness of safety issues in the workplace. Possession of a valid driving licence. Excellent customer service skills. Desirable: City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 or equivalent trade qualification in painting and decorating. Asbestos Awareness trained. Recent Disclosure and Barring Certificate (Enhanced Level).
