Full Job Description

We are entering an exciting time at the Royal Surrey with the development of surgical services throughout the Trust. Within paediatrics we are developing our pre-assessment services and you will play a pivotal role in this, as well as delivering high quality pre and post-operative care to children and young people and supporting their families.
· You must have at least 18 moths post-registration experience at band 5 to apply for the role.
· If you do not already have the EPLS qualification or similar, we will expect you to complete this as soon as possible.
· We will support you to complete the STPN Pre-Assessment Course., As a band 6 nurse you will be expected to
· You will plan, prepare and deliver high quality care to patients and their families.
· You will be expected to actively develop your leadership skills, utilising opportunities to enhance your knowledge and experience whilst being supported by the band 6 and senior teams.
· You will support junior members of staff and students in their learning and development.
· You will promote a positive culture within the workplace, treating people with respect and dignity.
· You will treat information with confidentiality, be that regarding patients, families or your colleagues.
· You will liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to promote timely care, appropriate information sharing and team work.
· You will advocate appropriately for the patients and your colleagues.
· You will escalate concerns to the Senior Sister or Matron or duty clinician, The post holder will deliver patient care on a daily basis. They should be expert in all areas of general paediatric nursing care from patient's admission to discharge. They are expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, and is designated to take charge of the ward on a regular basis, in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.
As nurse in charge they have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. They will manage, support and lead a team of paediatric nurses in the delivery of evidence-based family-centred care, which is of a high standard. They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including appraisal, rotas and the supervision of learners. They will provide advice and support to parents/carers, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Although primarily based in the Day Surgery Unit, there will be an expectation of rotation to Hascombe Ward.
Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times. The will provide leadership on the Trusts values and behaviours. They are expected to supervise and to be able to teach all grades of staff, including basic and/or post-basic students.
