Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join the Paediatric Respiratory and Long Term Ventilation (LTV) service at St George's Hospital. With support from WellChild we have developed a Better at Home simulation suite to train parents and carers of children with complex respiratory needs. The postholder will work alongside our current WellChild LTV Clinical Nurse Specialists to support children & young people in St George's and South-West London with LTV needs. The role will include both clinical and educational aspects. There is the opportunity to work within the Better at Home SIM training programme and facility within St George's to advance training for parents and carers of children with LTV needs, prior to discharge from hospital and at home. The postholder will also share the clinical caseload to support the initiation of ventilation (invasive and non-invasive), coordinating the discharge process and providing ongoing care and support of children with LTV after
discharge including outpatient clinics, telephone advice, and domiciliary visits. The postholder would be expected to work independently/autonomously alongside the multi-disciplinary teams including Paediatric Respiratory, Paediatric Intensive care, High Dependency Units and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at St George's and within south West London., To support the inpatient and outpatient care of children on long-term ventilation and their families. This will include teaching parents/guardians, helping to facilitate discharge, liaising with community nursing teams and supporting families at home.

The role involves working within a long-term ventilation / respiratorymedical and nursing service that is aimed at continuously improving standards of patient care and facilitating multi-professional working. This will be achieved through clinical practice, management, education, research and audit.
