Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed paediatric nurse to join the children's allergy team.

You will be working as part of a forward-thinking team of clinical nurse specialists (CNS), paediatricians, GP's, dietitians, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) in primary and secondary care.

As a member of the CNS team, teaching and supporting the development of parents, carers, and children and young people's knowledge, understanding and management of their allergic conditions is central to this role.

On a day-to-day basis the CNS team provides nurse-led clinics and supports several multidisciplinary clinics weekly. We also deliver a nurse-led food/drug challenge service and pollen immunotherapy, ensuring a holistic approach to delivery of children's allergy care., To provide a comprehensive nursing service within a MDT for children and young people with allergic conditions. The post holder will participate in the nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical care, education and support required for both acute and long-term allergic conditions.

The post holder will work collaboratively with both the community and the acute unit multidisciplinary teams contributing to all aspects of our service which aims to minimise episodes of poor health and promote a philosophy of ambulatory and community care wherever possible.

Teaching and supporting the development of parents, carers, and children and young people's knowledge, understanding and management of their allergic conditions will be central to this role.

Following a period of training, supervision & support the post holder will work independently. Clinical work will be guided and supported by Lead Nurse and the wider MDT allergy team.

The post holder will assist in the monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service to ensure delivery of an evidence based, cost-efficient service, that achieves high standards of care and the best outcomes for children and their families.

The post holder will be involved in the development and delivery of an immunotherapy service and the ongoing delivery and development of the food and drug oral challenge service in our day care setting.

Previous experience of caring for children with allergic conditions such as asthma, eczema and food allergy in community or acute settings will be advantageous, but not essential for this post. Practical training, support and clinical supervision will be provided.

You will need to have excellent communication and teaching skills and the ability to work as part MDT as well as independently. You will have a key role in maintaining high standards of nursing care and contributing to the smooth running and development of the service.

You will be working as part of a forward-thinking multidisciplinary team of three clinical nurse specialists (CNS), two paediatricians, two GP's, three dietitians, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) in primary and secondary care.
