Reporting into the Head of Head of Income and Contracting, the Overseas & Private Patients Manager will be responsible for the management, recovery and reporting of Private Patient and Overseas patient Income into the Trust to support optimal understanding of income sources. They will lead the Trust's Overseas Visitors and Private Patients function, managing patients and invoicing arrangements; ensuring full compliance with legislation, NHS guidance, and Trust policies; To provide expert advice on Overseas Visitor Charging Regulations and Private Patient procedures; to handle patient cases, confirming the overseas status. - Lead on the Trust's Overseas Visitor policy in accordance with DHSC Overseas Charging Regulations and ensure compliance with the Trust's Private Patient Policy.
- Advise Trust management and Directorates on policies and procedures relating to: o Identification of overseas visitors o Eligibility for NHS treatment o Communication with chargeable patients o Billing and income recovery processes
- Ensure all private patient referrals are appropriately authorised, recorded, and invoiced in line with the current Trust tariff. Financial Management and Income Recovery
- Ensure all overseas visitor and private patient invoices are raised accurately and promptly.
- Liaise with insurers, self-paying patients, and relevant stakeholders to secure guarantees of payment and minimise debt. Compliance, Governance and Reporting
- Maintain expert knowledge of current legislation, NHS guidance, and Trust policies relating to overseas visitors and private patients.
- Monitor developments in migrant and charging regulations and advise the Trust on implementation and compliance requirements. Partnership Working and Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop effective working relationships with clinicians, ward managers, service leads, finance teams, and administrative staff to support the identification and management of overseas and private patients.
- Liaise with: o Home Office and UK Border Force o NHS England o Department for Work and Pensions o Insurance companies o Embassies and High Commissions o GP practices and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) Patient Support and Complaints Management
- Support patients, relatives, charities, and care coordinators by providing advice regarding treatment eligibility, charging status, and payment arrangements.
- Coordinate Home Office Voluntary Service Returns in partnership with Lead Nurses to support safe patient repatriation where appropriate.
The role requires sound judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle emotionally challenging situations while ensuring compliance with national legislation and Trust policy.
Band 5 £32,073 - £39,043 Per annum Hours; 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working - Postholder based on site at Milton Keynes University Hospital
