Are you passionate about the outdoors and the difference it can make to young people's lives? We're looking for an enthusiastic and committed Outdoor Education Tutor to join our dedicated team and help create memorable learning experiences beyond the classroom. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire pupils with autism and additional needs through practical, hands-on learning that builds confidence, independence, resilience and life skills. From leading Forest School sessions and developing horticulture projects to supporting pupils to achieve nationally recognised awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, John Muir Award and AQA Unit Awards, you'll play a key role in preparing our young people for adulthood through meaningful real-world experiences. No two days will be the same. You'll spend much of your time outdoors delivering engaging activities, while also planning programmes, coordinating educational visits and working alongside colleagues to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. What you will be doing

  • Deliver engaging outdoor learning programmes including Forest School, horticulture and enrichment activities.
  • Lead pupils towards recognised accreditations including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, John Muir Award and AQA Unit Awards.
  • Plan and support educational visits, outdoor adventures and community-based learning opportunities.
  • Develop inspiring outdoor learning environments and horticulture projects that promote wellbeing, enterprise and preparation for adulthood.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging communication, confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and risk assessment while ensuring activities are safe, enjoyable and accessible.

    Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly autism.
  • Experience delivering outdoor learning, enrichment or practical education activities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and educational risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to motivate and inspire pupils.
  • A flexible, positive and resilient approach with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Forest School experience (desirable)
  • AQA Unit Awards (desirable)
  • First Aid (desirable)
  • Driving licence

    Options Higford is a specialist school set in 28 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside. We provide a high quality, holistic education for up to 60 autistic students who also have associated behavioural needs. Class groups have five students in with at least 1:1 staffing. We provide personalised curriculums for each student based on their individual needs and aim to support them to make progress academically, socially, with skills for life, regulating their emotions and accessing the community.
