Full Job Description
To lead the instruction team in delivering safe, engaging, and educational outdoor activities, while managing equipment, staff development, and quality assurance.,
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the team to maintain high morale and high-quality service.
- Develop and deliver training sessions to staff, ensuring proficiency in NGB standards.
- Perform staff evaluations, appraisals, and ongoing training. 2. Operational Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all outdoor activities meet or exceed Health & Safety guidelines, AALA licensing, and company standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Manage equipment safety checks, repairs, and maintenance in coordination with Head of Outdoor Education.
- Take responsibility for daily safety on-sites and including emergency management.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies. 3. Activity Delivery and Programming
- Direct and deliver high-quality, adventurous, and educational activities
- Assist the design and development of innovative, progressive outdoor programmes.
- Provide pastoral care and personal development opportunities for participants. 4. Administration and Logistics
- Maintain accurate records of equipment and safety checks.
- Manage logistics of the daily timetable
Applicants must hold a RYA Senior Instructor Qualification in at least one of the following activities: Windsurfing, Dinghy Sailing or Keelboat Sailing Person Specification & Requirements Essential: - Qualifications: At least 1 qualification at the level of RYA Senior Instructor in Windsurfing, Dinghy or Keelboat Sailing and an Instructor qualification in another discipline.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of instructing experience in varied outdoor centres.
- Leadership: Proven experience in managing, mentoring, or training staff.
- Safety: Excellent knowledge of AALA regulations and risk management.
- First Aid: 2-day outdoor first aid qualification (minimum).
- Licence: Full UK driving licence, often with D1 minibus entitlement.
- Attitude: Strong leadership skills, calm under pressure, and ability to inspire. Desirable:
- Additional Senior Instructor Qualification, e.g. RYA Powerboat Instructor, Mountain Leader, Climbing Instructor, UK Paddlesport Coach, MIAS Level 2 Instructor
- A Level 3 qualification which covers Leadership & Management or Education & Training.
- Experience with SEN (Special Educational Needs) groups and understanding of Safeguarding
