Full Job Description
We are seeking an Orthopaedic Practitioner to join the dynamic West London Children's Healthcare Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics team at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. The successful applicant will join our paediatric orthopaedic department, consisting of a team of committed individuals who provide secondary and tertiary services for children with a wide range of orthopaedic problems. Multidisciplinary team working underpins the services that we provide and has been the foundation that has enabled us to develop and provide excellent care for children and young people with a wide variety and complexity of orthopaedic conditions. The paediatric orthopaedic service is currently provided by 3 full time paediatric orthopaedic surgeons and a 4th part-time consultant. In addition there are 5 part time specialist paediatric orthopaedic practitioners who provide subspecialist clinics in neuro-orthopaedics / gait clinics, club foot, hip screening and Pavlik harness treatment of DDH, limb length discrepancy and deformity and general musculoskeletal disorders. The post-holder will:
- Provide casting/technical services to paediatric outpatient clinics, accident and emergency department, wards, and operating theatres
- Provide specialised splints for the paediatric inpatients and outpatient department
- Provides support in the development and implementation of effective programmes of care, support efficient operation of all sessions, and carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision
- Supervise staff and assist in staff training and development
- Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist practical skills and theoretical knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices in accordance with BOA/RCN (SOTN/AOT) casting techniques/standards
- Undertake the construction and fitting of a range of routine and complex casts including cast braces/focus rigidity casting/all advanced bracing work
- Ensure that all patients requiring casts or further work to existing casts are treated promptly and if applicable, not delay patient discharge
- Triage patients with cast problems and deal with or refer as appropriate
- Attend elective T&O lists as and when requested by the orthopaedic surgeons
- Participate and contribute to departmental meetings as and when required
- Any other duty as may be needed in the provision of the service On 1st April 2022, paediatric and child health services across Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust came together under a single and integrated governance and leadership structure creating WLCH. We have an ambitious vision to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people across West London through collaboration of clinical teams and by building stronger, equitable common care pathways with close links to research and education colleagues at Imperial College. WLCH runs paediatric services from four sites, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, West Middlesex, Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary's Hospital. In addition, we are working in partnership with other acute providers in NWL and with our partners in community, mental health, local borough and voluntary sector services to improve care for all children and young people.
