Full Job Description

The post holder will work flexibly across ophthalmology sub-specialties and virtual clinic pathways, ensuring investigations are undertaken accurately, safely and efficiently and that results are appropriately recorded and available to support clinical decision-making. The post is an established Band 3 Ophthalmic Technician position and forms an important part of the ophthalmology workforce skill mix. The Band 3 technician role provides a distinct technical function and is required to maintain appropriate service capacity, clinic flow and delivery of ophthalmology activity. The post holder will be expected to maintain a high standard of patient care, communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, work within their scope of competence and contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of ophthalmology services., The role will include the assessment and recording of visual acuity and colour vision using Ishihara testing, visual field assessment, optical coherence tomography (OCT), corneal topography, wide-field retinal photography and intraocular pressure measurement using iCare tonometry. The post holder will also instil ophthalmic medication under the guidance and supervision of a Patient Support and Guidance (PSG) practitioner, in accordance with local policies and procedures.
