Full Job Description

To deliver Ophthalmic Imaging diagnostic retinal scans, under the direction of Head of the Imaging service.

For some Imaging techniques this may be working independently, however usually as part of a team with practice appropriate for statutory regulation.

Performs a number of follow -up Ophthalmic Imaging test to aid the clinical diagnosis, for example, performs high resolution 3 dimensional imaging of the retina and undertakes accurate measurements for nerve fibre analysis.

Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input data to the appropriate specialized software.

May be required to supervise, organize and allocate work and/ or train less experienced staff in own area.

Main duties of the job

Technical

Undertake follow-up Ophthalmic Imaging which includes:

Detailed retinal scanning to determine a clinical diagnosis.High magnification stereo recording of the optic nerve head.Training will be given for use of data Management systems as necessary.

Checking that the patient demographics are correct before entering onto the patient database equipment.

Data entry of patient details using the correct field definitions.

Using appropriate filters to record clinical conditions.

Administrative

Communication with colleagues and medical staff to convey information that may include patient's results.

Required to follow written protocols, comment and assist in development and implementation of protocols or new equipment.

Understanding and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for the Imaging department.

Participate in audit/surveys of the Imaging department as they arise, including performance monitoring of less experienced staff.

Answer telephone enquiries and issue appointment dates if required
