OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN (Career Grade)

This is career grade position whereupon successful completion of our structured training and development programme, there is scope to progress from Trainee through to Senior Operations Technician grade subject to meeting competency and qualification requirements. This position would suit an individual with a keen interest in science or engineering. Working in the laboratory is a good introduction to a career in the Highway industry.

Your primary role will be to support the delivery of pavement, geotechnical and materials engineering services to the Laboratory's clients. This role will require you to conduct on-site and laboratory tests on a range of construction materials to ensure compliance with specifications and workmanship requirements. You will need to be able to follow detailed instructions and procedures in order to undertake testing activities to British and European Standards and specifications.

You will need to be enthusiastic, be capable of working under your own initiative and be able to demonstrate good communication and team working skills. You will also need to be practical, adaptable and dexterous to undertake testing work both outdoors on site and in our purpose-built Laboratory

You will be required to undertake some manual handling of materials with weights up to 25kg.

You will possess good literacy, numeracy and administration skills with the ability to write legibly and undertake accurate mathematical calculations., In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Lincs Laboratory is a specialist in-house service of the Highways Department of Lincolnshire County Council. The laboratory is based at Riseholme on the northern edge of Lincoln and has a varied workload which includes construction materials testing, pavement and geotechnical investigations, highway condition surveys and traffic data capture and analysis.

The Laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO17025 and we are committed to providing an efficient, competitive and high-quality service to the County Council and our other clients which include public and private sector consulting engineers, suppliers and contractors., Some elements of this role will require you to work on the Highway network and in order to minimise disruption, this may require you to work at night, over the weekend or to work additional hours, all of which will be paid at enhanced rates.
