Full Job Description

Lincolnshire County Council is looking to recruit a full-time (37 hours) Independent Travel Training trainer to join our amazing Transport Services department and help play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children in Lincolnshire. In this rewarding role, you'll work one-to-one with young people, planning safe travel routes, delivering bespoke training, and supporting them to travel independently to school or college, and delivering classroom sessions teaching SEND students the importance of road safety. About the role You will be joining a highly motivated team, which is committed to achieving the visions set for Lincolnshire County Council. As an ITT Trainer, you will report to the Travel Options Senior, and work with our SEN Children in developing their travel independence. This role involves assessing a person's existing travel skills, creating personalised travel plans, and providing instruction to ensure they can navigate public transport and other travel methods confidently and safely. In your training period you will work with existing members of the team to shadow them and will have the opportunity to obtain a formal Travel Training qualification. Working days vary depending on who is being trained, what activities you have planned that day and the bus routes that are needed to get there. You will be supported by a team of experienced travel trainers who you will work alongside to deliver this service. The team offer a broad range of knowledge of SEND children, safe walking routes and public transport. Team has regular catchups to ensure effective communication, share knowledge and share their experiences of the week. Key Responsibilities of an Independent Travel Trainer: Assessment: Evaluate a person's existing travel skills, abilities, and needs. Training: Develop and deliver individualized training programs, often in the field, to help individuals gain confidence and competence in traveling independently. Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments for each travel route to ensure safety and minimize potential hazards. Route Planning: Plan safe and accessible routes using various modes of transportation, including public transport. Support: Provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the training process, and continue to support individuals as they practice and improve their travel skills. Communication: Engage with parents, guardians, carers, and educational institutions to promote independent travel and ensure a shared understanding of the student's progress and needs. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of training sessions, assessments, and progress to track an student's journey towards independent travel.

Do you have experience of working with SEN Children and young people?, We're looking for someone with experience supporting young people with SEND, strong communication skills, and a person-centred approach. You'll need a full driving licence and the ability to work flexibly across the Lincolnshire area, which will include early starts to support students to travel to their educational settings.
