Full Job Description

We are pleased to be offering the opportunity for two current LUHFT Assistant Practitioners/Therapy Assistants to undertake an Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship. The course is being hosted by The University of Salford and will run over a 3-year period commencing in September 2026., The Royal will host one apprenticee with the other hosted by Aintree. The teams that they will sit in are yet to be decided., As an evolving clinician you will work alongside patients and their families supporting shared decision making and facilitating safe and appropriate transfer of care to wider health and social care services., To undertake Occupational Therapy assessment, implement treatment plans and evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for routine patients. To undertake Occupational assessment, implement treatment plans and evaluate care delivery according to health care needs for complex patients with the support of the Senior Therapists within the team. To liaise regularly with Senior colleagues regarding management of caseload, treatment progression and on-going care. To participate in multi-disciplinary working and take an active part in MDT meetings. To participate in teaching and advice-giving sessions with patients, carers and other Health Care Professionals to ensure best provision of patient care. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all Health Care Professionals about all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who will have difficulties in understanding and communication. To comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy standards and rules of professional conduct. To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Trust and Departmental Standards of Practice. To ensure treatments offered to patients are based on best available clinical evidence. To comply with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott recommendations. To participate in Clinical Audit as appropriate in each speciality area under the supervision of a Senior Therapist. To identify clinical risk within own patient case-load and liaise with Senior Therapist for appropriate support. To undertake regular training and mentoring sessions with Senior staff to monitor and develop clinical and professional skills. To plan, manage and evaluate aspects of own work as agreed with Senior staff and Managers.

The minimum entry criteria includes both GCSE English and Maths at grades 9 - 4 (or A - C) or other equivalent qualification, such as Functional Skills level 2 in both. If you do not hold qualifications that equate to 96 - 120 UCAS points at Level 3 (A-Levels at BBB - CCC or above, BTEC at DDM - MMM etc) then applicants with experience will need to complete a short portfolio of work prior to acceptance on the course to evidence their ability to study at degree level. International applicants currently in the UK will need the VISA to be valid until at least the end date of the course (August 2029) and will require a fee assessment to ensure eligibility for apprenticeship funding. To be eligible for government-funded apprenticeships, international applicants must have the right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK or EEA for the past three years, subject to their immigration status., During the 3 years of training you will be supported in developing the knowledge and skills to undertake assessments and formulate/carry out treatment plans for a variety of patient groups. You will develop clinical reasoning skills and the use of evidence-based practice, as well as the ability to risk assess to ensure patient safety. You will utilise a problem-solving approach and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver quality patient care.,
