Full Job Description

You will lead the technical direction of an enterprise observability service, working as a trusted advisor alongside the client's architects. In the first phase you will guide a small pod maintaining and enhancing the current Dynatrace platform, while defining the target architecture for a new strategic platform with the client. From April 2027 you will lead the technical strategy and design of the new monitoring and observability platform, covering data retention and access design, ingest and telemetry pipeline architecture, instrumentation standards, alerting philosophy and event management design. You hold the design authority and the technical quality of everything built to it, and you guide the team's skills development.,

  • Technical strategy: Define the observability strategy and target architecture together with the client's architects, acting as a trusted advisor from day one.
  • Current-platform leadership: Guide the pod's configuration, enhancement and alert-quality work, and use what you learn there to shape the target design.
  • New platform architecture: Own the design of the new platform: tenancy and access, data retention, telemetry ingest and processing, and coverage standards.
  • Instrumentation standards: Define the OpenTelemetry-based standards and onboarding patterns that application teams follow, including Kubernetes through the Dynatrace Operator.
  • Alerting and event design: Set the alerting and AI-assisted diagnostics strategy and the SLO patterns, and design the ServiceNow event pipeline covering enrichment, correlation, event-to-incident rules and CMDB alignment.
  • Implementation assurance: Lead the engineering team technically, direct the monitoring-as-code approach, and assure the handover into ongoing support., Observability architecture: 10+ years in infrastructure, SRE or monitoring engineering, including 4+ in observability architecture or lead roles.
  • Dynatrace depth: Strong hands-on Dynatrace at enterprise scale. This role anchors the team's skills, so deep platform command matters more than anything else on this list.
  • OpenTelemetry architecture: Designing observability on OpenTelemetry as the instrumentation standard, with telemetry generation, ingestion, processing, correlation and visualisation kept as separate layers so the platform can change without re-engineering the estate. Vendor-neutral collection and routing matter as much as the platform itself.
  • Design leadership: Able to define instrumentation standards, alerting philosophy, data retention and access design, and event-to-incident integration with ITSM, and to defend those decisions with senior client stakeholders.
  • Toolchain rationalisation: Integrating and optimising observability toolchains and replacing legacy monitoring tools, working toward a single pane of glass across a hybrid estate.
  • As-code discipline: Managing monitoring configuration as code with CI/CD, including access models and the protection of sensitive telemetry.
  • Nice to Have
  • Breadth across tier-one platforms: Architecture experience on a second major observability platform such as Datadog, Splunk Observability Cloud, New Relic or Elastic.
  • Greenfield implementation: A completed greenfield or major re-platform Dynatrace build. Deep migration and adoption experience is an equally good route in.
  • Monitoring-as-code tooling: Monaco or the Dynatrace Terraform provider, and Site Reliability Guardian for SLO-based gates.
  • Event management: ServiceNow event integration design, and defining OpenTelemetry standards.
  • Practice background: Legacy monitoring consolidation, and SRE practice such as error budgets and SLO adoption.
  • Technologies & Tools The platform's technical foundation:
  • Observability platform: Dynatrace and/or Datadog
  • Data ingest: OpenPipeline for parsing, masking, routing and bucket or retention assignment across logs, metrics, traces and events.
  • Monitoring-as-code: Terraform provider, delivered through Git-based workflows and GitHub Actions.
  • Automation: Workflows and AppEngine, with Site Reliability Guardian for SLO-based gates.
  • Instrumentation: OpenTelemetry, and OneAgent including the Operator for Kubernetes.
  • Service integration: ServiceNow for event-to-incident flow and CMDB enrichment.
  • Estate: A hybrid estate spanning AWS, Azure and on-premises., We offer a range of tailored benefits that support your physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Our Learning and Development team ensure that there are continuous growth and development opportunities for our people. We also offer the opportunity to have flexible work options., We are an equal opportunities employer.
