Full Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and skilled Nurture Group Teacher to join Millside School and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Slough's most vulnerable young people. Millside Special School, part of Haybrook College Trust, is a specialist provision for pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our pupils have experienced significant barriers to learning and require relational, trauma-informed approaches to support their engagement and success. At Millside, we nurture, engage and educate pupils by providing high-quality, therapeutic and inclusive educational experiences. Our aim is to help pupils develop emotional regulation, positive behaviour choices and the skills needed to become confident, independent learners with hopeful futures. This is an exciting time to join Millside School. The school is under new leadership and is expanding, with the addition of new, purpose-built learning spaces designed to support regulation, engagement and personalised learning. About the Role As a Nurture Group Teacher, you will be responsible for the teaching and holistic support of a small KS3 nurture group, working closely with pastoral staff, families and external agencies. You will deliver a personalised, scaffolded curriculum that supports academic progress alongside social, emotional and behavioural development. Our Year 7 and Year 8 classes operate a primary based nurture group approach, where each class is taught by the same teacher for all core subjects in order to delay full transition and create a more nurturing environment. Specialist subject teaching, such as sport, DT and ICT is increased over time, so by year 9 pupils are able to fully access subject specific teaching. You will model calm, consistent and relational practice, supporting pupils to feel safe, understood and ready to learn. This role is ideal for a teacher who is reflective, resilient and motivated by seeing pupils make small but life-changing steps forward. Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and planning for a KS3 nurture group with SEMH and additional needs
  • Delivering a flexible, adapted curriculum which supports engagement and progress
  • Using trauma-informed, attachment-aware and relational approaches in the classroom
  • Assessing, monitoring and reporting on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Supporting pupils to develop emotional regulation, self-esteem and positive behaviours
  • Working closely with colleagues, families and external professionals
  • Contributing to EHCP reviews, behaviour plans and individual learning programmes
  • Promoting inclusion, safeguarding and high expectations for all pupils
  • About You
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has experience of working with pupils with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
