Full Job Description
To assist the qualified nurses in caring for patients receiving dialysis, To assist in the care of patients undergoing dialysis, this will include the preparation and connecting patients for dialysis which includes needling them and care of patients after dialysis, lining and priming dialysis machines and stripping down and cleaning at the end of sessions To assist in the triaging of acutely unwell patients and highlighting/passing on any clinically important patient information received to the nurse in charge of the renal unit. To be familiar and accurate in the sorting, preparation and transportation of blood samples to both internal and external laboratories. To perform measuring, testing, and collating of urine results for patients requiring such at their outpatient visit. This includes highlighting any major anomalies to the senior nurse in charge of the unit that day. To perform ECG's on patients, under supervision from nursing staff if necessary and after in-service training as required. To do Transonics and report back to team leaders. To change superficial dressings to wounds under the supervision of a registered nurse. To act as chaperone when required.. To be aware of and adhere to, all Trust infection control requirements whilst working within the department and highlight any areas of known concerns to the renal unit manager or deputising nurse in her absence. To contribute to the orientation of new staff to the clinical area. To provide mentorship to new renal care assistants. Administration and Clerical To help prepare in advance all necessary paperwork and equipment for each patient attending clinic. To take, record and communicate any messages accurately and efficiently to the nurse in charge of clinic or the manager of outpatients. To help maintain and store the future request cards on patients attending the clinics. To help with the tidying, restocking, maintenance and ordering for all areas in the department including the consulting rooms.
The central dialysis unit is a nurse-led unit with a highly motivated team committed to providing high-quality service, developing individual potential, and continuing education. The unit has strong links with Oxford Brookes University, which enable staff's educational and professional development. This is a very good and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Care support worker Band 3 who will be willing to support the Registered Nurses in caring for haemodialysis patients and to take on extra Link Roles. This is a very good and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated CSW who will be willing to learn new skills, particularly Haemodialysis. The successful applicant will support patients undergoing regular haemodialysis treatment, which will involve many skills, including patient education and application of technology. The haemodialysis staff will support and train them to acquire the needed skills and knowledge.,
