Full Job Description
The post holder will be mentored by the Senior Nurse Practitioners. There will be an expectation to develop and achieve the skills and competencies for the role of Nurse Practitioner under the direct mentorship of the Senior Nurse Practitioners. To provide professional and advanced clinical nursing support and advice to the junior doctors, nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team within LUHFT To provide senior nursing support and advice to all clinical areas within the Trust, and to undertake advanced patient assessment and clinical interventions, which includes Nurse Prescribing. To participate in and co-ordinate the Trust's Emergency Response Teams Cardiac Arrests and other clinical emergencies. The post holder will not be expected to perform operational or Duty management responsibilities.Main duties of the job The Post holder will be an experienced practitioner, demonstrating a high level of practice, knowledge and autonomy, participating in direct patient care. Using a high level of interpersonal skills and knowledge, filter all calls to medical staff. Refer clinical problems as required or as per guidelines. Triage and prioritise all calls to junior doctors using a high level of interpretation and judgement. Provide clinical advice and support to PRHO/SHO on request. To provide senior clinical advice to all areas within the Trust. Key Member of the "H@N" Team to ensure optimum patient care. Act as a clinical expert, using highly developed specialist knowledge in the provision of support and advice to ward & junior medical staff. To communicate effectively with senior medical staff i.e. (Anaesthetist, Registrar, ITU SPR, Consultant) ensuring optimum patient care is maintained in all clinical areas by having the ability to provide, receive and interpret highly complex and sensitive, To liaise with ward managers and matrons regarding the clinical management of their areas at the end of each shift. Contribute in the planning of shift rotas for fifteen Senior Nurse Practitioners Attend and actively participate in team meetings. Request and document own holidays and sickness etc in a timely manner and with recognition of service demands. Ensure full holiday entitlement taken within the calendar year. Maintain registration and provide line manager with registration details when renewed. Provide cover for colleagues unexpected sickness/absence To be responsible for individual professional development and contribute to improvements of patient care through development of standards and participate in benchmarking research and audit. Participate in the education and development of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate student nurse placements liaising with the university. Staff Management Identify staff not performing to the expected clinical standard and advise their manager or matron. Support member of staff and manager/matron to ensure acceptable standards attained. Advise Duty Manager of any concerns re staff performance. Complaints Act as 1st line of clinical complaints procedure. Advise and support staff in dealing with clinical complaints. Document complaint as per Trust protocol. Communicate with appropriate person your involvement e.g. wards sister, matron or duty manager. Risk Management
- RGN ENB 998 or equivalent
- MSc Clinical exam/equivalent
- MSc Clinical diagnostics/equivalent
- MSc Clinical decision making/equivalent Desirable criteria
- Degree in Health Related Subject.
- Advanced Life Support, Teaching and assessing skills advanced
- Experienced Nurse in Acute Ward or Department Care Area.
- Familiar with care of the critically ill patient
- A competent practitioner with evidence of gaining and practicing some or all of the clinical skills obtained in the job description
- Experience of working in MDT
- Experience in a leadership role ( with formal qualification desirable)
- Band 6 team leader with demonstrable experience, Aptitude to undertake advanced patient assessment
- Computer Literate/Skills Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of high flow/airvo set up
- Knowledge of PCA/ rectal sheath catheter
- Working knowledge of chest drains
- Working knowledge of surgical drains
- Knowledge of Trust IT systems, ICE, PENs, Dashboard, Wellsky, Clinical Skills
- Proven ward management skills
- Ability To Work Under Pressure.
- Ability to think strategically and plan ahead.
- Excellent Written and verbal Communication Skills, including the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritise.
- Ability to manage highly complex clinical situations that involve staff from all levels within an organisation, in circumstances where information is often conflicting or not fully known., Flexible
