Contract: Full-time (WTE to be confirmed) Location: Oxford About the Role We are working in partnership with an NHS Trust to recruit an experienced Nurse Consultant (Band 8b) to provide expert clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, values-based care across services and systems. Key Responsibilities Expert Clinical Practice

  • Deliver expert, autonomous clinical care within your professional specialty, managing complex cases and supporting decision-making where standard pathways do not apply.
  • Hold responsibility for a defined advanced clinical caseload, typically contributing around 50% of job plan to direct clinical care.
  • Act as a recognised clinical expert, providing consultation, advice, and leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure high-quality documentation, informed consent, and practice in line with professional, legal, and ethical standards.
  • Strategic & Enabling Leadership
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership across services, influencing pathways, workforce models, and standards of care.
  • Support, supervise, coach, and mentor advanced and consultant-level practitioners, fostering excellence and sustainability.
  • Build strong relationships across the Trust, ICS, and national networks to shape service development and innovation.
  • Act as an advocate for patients, carers, staff, and the profession.
  • Learning, Development & Improvement
  • Lead and contribute to education, training, and workforce development locally and nationally.
  • Work closely with Higher Education Institutions to influence curricula and support undergraduate and postgraduate education.
  • Contribute to appraisal, clinical supervision, and capability development for advanced practice roles.
  • Person Specification (Summary)
  • Current professional registration (NMC / HCPC or relevant regulator)
  • Master's degree (Level 7) relevant to advanced/consultant practice
  • Formal teaching, mentoring, or supervision experience
  • PhD / Professional Doctorate (or commitment to doctoral study)
  • Prescribing qualification (where relevant to role)
  • Evidence of research leadership, publications, or grant activity
