Full Job Description

The internship is expected to be 170 hours in total, undertaken across a six month period or less, in a working pattern agreed with your supervisor.
This role will be based on the university campus and is open to anyone, not just the University of Leeds students.
Are you someone who is excited by the potential of numismatic collections? Would you like to help make these collections better understood, in a supportive environment?
Cultural Collections & Galleries is a department of the University Library, looking after collections ranging from the University's art collection through to unique literary manuscripts.
Our holdings include a significant numismatics collection (coins and medals) which is both geographically and chronologically broad. Funded by the British Numismatic Society, this internship offers an opportunity for a successful candidate to learn about the coin collection and contribute to making more of it available to the public. This will involve learning about the history of the collection, learning how to research specific coin types held in it, how this information is processed by our teams and how we can share it publicly in a variety of ways.
Working alongside the collection curator, the intern will be encouraged to work specifically on one of two identified areas: medieval British coinage and/or 18^th-century coin collecting.

o Gain experience of working with internationally significant archives and cultural collections in a professional setting
o Gain mentoring from numismatic and library professionals
o Experience working with numismatic collections, understanding how they are catalogued and made accessible
o Coin handling experience
o Collections management experience
o Experience working within a busy curatorial environment
o Planning an engagement activity based on our audience strategy
o Independent thinking and decision making
o Planning workload and time management
o Carrying out work which will benefit researchers and users of Cultural Collections and Galleries and broaden access
This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Information on other visa options is available at: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas

o 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) - That's 42 days a year!
o Generous pension scheme options
o Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
o Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.
o Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.
And much more!
