Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nuclear Medicine Physics team at Addenbrooke's Hospital in a development post offering a structured career pathway from Band 6 Nuclear Medicine Physics Technologist to Band 7 Clinical Scientist.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the leading Nuclear Medicine service in the region. The department operates three nuclear medicine imaging systems and a PET-CT scanner, with a total-body PET scanner due for installation and a full renewal programme underway, including a state-of-the-art digital CZT SPECT/CT system.
Working within our Physics team, you will play a key role in delivering and supporting high-quality diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy services. Your work will span radioactive waste management, preparation and decontamination of therapy facilities, quality control of imaging and radiation detection equipment, and support for radionuclide therapy preparation, delivery and dosimetry.
Alongside these responsibilities, you will be supported through ACS Route 2 Clinical Scientist training. Following HCPC registration and a minimum of three years in post, you will progress into the Band 7 Clinical Scientist role, developing the advanced skills required to practise as a Clinical Scientist in Nuclear Medicine.
This post is suitable for physics graduates or early-career scientists looking to develop a career in Nuclear Medicine Physics and progress towards HCPC Clinical Scientist registration.
Main duties of the job
The department of nuclear medicine (DNM) carries out a wide range of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures involving the use of radioactive material. The post holder will be part of the physics team within DNM which supports the clinical and research work of the department.
In broad terms, the post holder will:o Participate in the management of radioactive waste.o Monitor, decontaminate and clean areas used for radiation therapy.o Carry out routine quality control checks on radiation counters, survey equipment and imaging equipment (SPECT & PET).o Participate in the preparation, delivery and quantitative image analysis of complex radionuclide therapies.o Assist with ensuring that the department adheres to relevant legislation.o Undertake ACS Route 2 Clinical Scientist training for a minimum of three years. When CS registration is achieved, the post-holder would progress to the linked Band 7 Nuclear Medicine Physicist role.
