NLGV Driver Operative

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of a NLGV Driver Operative, on a 6.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration., The NLGV Driver Operative role involves carrying out street cleansing operations across the borough to maintain high standards of cleanliness, operating non-LGV vehicles and mechanical sweepers, and ensuring the safe handling and disposal of waste. Working individually or as part of a team, you will contribute directly to community clean-up efforts and local environmental maintenance.

Responsibilities:

Ensure safe operation of allocated vehicles, plant, and equipment, including daily vehicle checks, loading/unloading, and reporting defects in a timely manner.

Perform scheduled and ad-hoc street cleansing activities such as litter picking, manual/mechanical street sweeping, leaf and weed removal, emptying litter/dog waste bins, and fly-tipping/graffiti removal.

Safe collection and disposal of hazardous waste (e.g., sharp items, needles) and dead animals.

Operate hand tools and power equipment (e.g., blowers, strimmers) safely following relevant training/certification.

Adhere to health and safety policies, Safe Systems of Work, and Council corporate procedures.

Category B driving licence

Essentials:

Willingness to undertake physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.

Basic digital literacy to use handheld or in-cab systems for task recording; knowledge of basic maintenance and care for equipment and vehicles.

Mobile within the Borough with a flexible approach to working hours, assignments, unsociable hours, and bank holidays.

Clear and effective communication skills when engaging with team members, managers, and the public
