Full Job Description
You'll be working a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota, with shifts running from 9pm to 8:30am. Working alongside a Veterinary Surgeon and Auxiliary Veterinary Nurse, you'll play an important role in the overnight care of our hospitalised patients and the management of emergency admissions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high standards of nursing care to hospitalised medical and surgical patients.
- Monitoring patients closely, recognising changes in their condition and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Nursing emergency and critical care patients, including those requiring more intensive monitoring.
- Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Assisting the Veterinary Surgeon with emergency admissions, stabilisation and treatment.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring thorough handovers to the day team.
- Supporting the smooth running of the hospital overnight and maintaining excellent standards of patient welfare.
We're looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse who is confident in their nursing abilities, enjoys working in a busy environment and takes pride in providing excellent patient care. Ideally, you'll have: - Experience working in small animal practice, preferably within a hospital or emergency setting.
- Good inpatient nursing and patient monitoring skills.
- An interest in emergency and critical care nursing.
- The confidence to work within a small overnight team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- A calm and practical approach, particularly when dealing with emergency situations.
- A genuine passion for patient care and working as part of a team. Previous night nursing or referral hospital experience would be beneficial, but we'd be happy to hear from nurses looking to develop their experience in this area too.
- Salary up to £43,680 FTE (£28,028 pro rata), plus additional holiday pay.
- A 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota.
- Funded CPD and opportunities for further development.
- Experience within a busy multidisciplinary referral hospital.
- A varied medical, surgical and emergency caseload.
- The opportunity to work alongside a Veterinary Surgeon and Auxiliary Veterinary Nurse.
- A friendly and supportive wider hospital team.
