Full Job Description

Work as part of a dedicated and compassionate team delivering newborn hearing screening, supporting babies and their families at an important early stage of life. The role involves identifying babies eligible for screening, engaging sensitively with parents and families, carrying out screens, and accurately recording and uploading screening information to ensure high-quality care and follow-up.

This post includes hands-on involvement with newborn babies and regular contact with new parents, requiring a calm, gentle and reassuring approach. You will work closely with maternity and neonatal staff, as well as the audiology team, contributing to a collaborative, family-centred service that puts babies and parents at ease.
The role also includes some weekend and Bank Holiday working, offering variety and flexibility while supporting the continuous delivery of this essential screening service.
Within this role you will be identify newborn babies who require hearing screening and coordinate this process in line with national and local guidelines. Liaise effectively with parents, multidisciplinary team members and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated and supportive approach to care. Clearly explain the screening process to parents and obtain informed consent prior to undertaking the procedure. Carry out hearing screening for newborn babies across maternity units, neonatal and paediatric units, as well as hospital and community clinic settings.

Accurately collect, record and upload screening data using approved screening equipment and ensure all information is transferred correctly to the national computer database. Calibrate and use equipment safely and accurately, maintaining its security and condition at all times. Work collaboratively within a team to promote a professional, supportive and family-friendly environment.
