Newborn Hearing Screener

An opportunity has arisen to work within the South East Wales Region of Newborn Hearing Screening Wales, an All-Wales programme, which provides a uniform service of high quality within an All-Wales policy and to All-Wales standards and protocols.

Based at the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran you will work as part of a team participating in the hearing screening of newborn babies. You will undertake the full range of newborn hearing screening duties both in a hospital and community setting.

The post is for 29.5 hours per week, where you will work a specific rota that includes three Saturday morning shifts in every twelve weeks, as part of a twelve week rolling rota. A copy of the rota can be provided on request to ensure that you are able to commit to these working arrangements., Duties include communicating with the parents throughout the process, baby handling, use of screening equipment and accurately recording clinical and test data relevant to the screening process, therefore, good communication skills and experience of using a computer are essential. You must be a confident and reliable individual and possess the ability to work well under pressure.

Although the base site will be at the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, you will also be required to work several shifts at the University Hospital of Wales in addition to other South Wales hospital sites on a regular basis and to run clinics in the community. Therefore the successful candidate will need the ability to regularly travel between and work at other sites within the region as needed.

There is a mandatory requirement to undertake Level 3 Accredited Learning. On completion of this and subject to all criteria being met, you will continue in your job role on a permanent contract with PHW at the designated pay scale.
