Full Job Description

You will play an important leadership and clinical role in delivering safe, high-quality care to babies who require additional monitoring and support. You will be responsible for coordinating care on a shift-by-shift basis, supporting junior staff, and ensuring babies and their families receive compassionate, family-centred care. You will support the smooth running of the unit by coordinating shifts, allocating staff appropriately, and acting as a clinical role model. You will mentor and support Band 5 nurses, neonatal support workers, and students, helping to develop their confidence and clinical skills. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team--including neonatal doctors, midwives, allied health professionals, and community teams--you will contribute to safe discharge planning and continuity of care for families. Family support is a central part of the role. You will communicate sensitively with parents, providing education, reassurance, and guidance to help them feel confident in caring for their baby both during their stay and when preparing for discharge. Strong clinical knowledge and neonatal experience are essential, alongside excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills. The most important qualities include compassion, professionalism, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in a busy clinical environment. A commitment to teamwork, continuous learning, and maintaining high standards of care is vital.

We are looking for a motivated, compassionate, and experienced Band 6 Neonatal Nurseto join our friendly and dedicated team within our Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit. This is anexciting opportunity for a skilled neonatal nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality, family-centred care to babies requiring special care support. You will provide expert nursing care to neonates with a range of needs, support and guide junior staff, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for babies and their families. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to coordinate shifts, prioritise care, and support the development of others. Working within our Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit means being part of a close-knit team where every member's contribution matters. You will help create a calm, supportive environment for families during an important and often emotional time, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compassionate care.
