Full Job Description

Are you a Registered Nurse or midwife , looking to work in a team providing exceptional Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care to babies and their families? The babies in our care can be as premature at 22 weeks gestation and need many months of neurologically supportive developmental care. We also care for babies born at term with a variety of medical conditions. Our team is a well established Level 3 unit providing a centre of excellence for babies requiring medical and neurological assessment and treatment, and a tertiary referral centre for the South west neonatal network. Our unit has 32 cots, comprising of 8 ITU ,8 HDU and 16 SC, with an additional 10 cots on our Transitional Care Ward., The postholder will:

  • Work and communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team and contribute to the successful provision of the service.
  • Take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code of Professional conduct.
  • Be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of family centred patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team and the infants parent.
  • Take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including health care assistants and students on a daily basis.
  • Actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of mentor/assessor for learners e.g. Student nurses and support worker roles.
  • May be designated to take charge of the ward/department in the absence of the ward manager or senior nurse after two years in post and on an occasional basis within the first two years in post.
  • Continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies that will be determined within the clinical teams and in alignment with NBT workforce strategy.
