Full Job Description

Within this role, you will provide delivery assurance for severe weather and winter service related activities, supporting our regional teams across our network, as well as providing input on national winter service delivery and policy issues, to ensure the company delivers a high standard of winter service to our customers. The NW&SWT sits within the Operational Service Delivery Group, which provides colleagues with operational support and the tools they need to do their job. The group also drives national consistency, continuous improvement and the sharing of best practice to improve safety, customer service and performance. This role works in partnership with another National Winter & Severe Weather Advisor. The successful candidate will be required to travel to maintenance compounds. Occasional visits to National Highways offices will also be necessary. Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Provide severe weather support and advice to regions to ensure a high and consistent standard of planning and preparation for winter and sever weather response.
  • Inspect winter service-related compounds, equipment, and salt stock holdings to ensure these facilities are maintained safely and support effective winter service delivery, identifying and escalating any concerns to senior management.
  • Provide advice and guidance to regional teams on winter fleet operation, maintenance, and repair, to drive efficiencies, value for money and ensure national consistency in maintenance standards.
  • Inspect National Salt Reserve stocks held at strategic locations around England, supporting the company's commitments under the National Salt Reserve protocol.
  • Support the business to further develop its severe weather service, associated systems and processes, assisting with related assurance activities.

    Have experience of highways winter service delivery, preparation of winter service / severe weather plans.
  • Have good knowledge and understanding of industry best practice in winter service delivery.
  • Have an understanding or have relevant experience of vehicle operation and maintenance in similar applications i.e. winter service, HGV maintenance.
  • Experience of engaging effectively with professional, technical and other service delivery partners at all levels, and with different technical understanding.
