An exciting opportunity to work within the multiple myeloma service as a specialist Band 6 support nurse.

We are looking for a motivated nurse to work within our busy multiple myeloma specialist nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join our specialist team at a time when the service is continuing to grow and develop.

The role involves coordinating and supporting patients and their families who are living with a lifelong disease and require continuous treatment to control their disease. The role involves working closely with the multi-disciplinary team to be able to support our patients through their myeloma journey.

You will need to have excellent communication skills, good time-management and be able to work within a busy environment which can move at a fast pace. Further specialist training will be provided.

The myeloma specialist nursing team care for patients diagnosed with plasma cell disorders such as Multiple Myeloma, Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS), Smouldering Myeloma, Solitary plasmacytoma, AL Amyloidosis and plasma cell leukaemia.

Main duties of the job

Assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of care as a specialist support nurse with specialist haematology skills.

Develop specialist knowledge of the disease process of multiple myeloma and the many treatments available.

Provide advice and clinical expertise skills in symptom management, telephone triage and specialist knowledge on treatment side effects including management of these.

Carry a caseload and take responsibility for the management of allocated cases including management of a band 6 led treatment follow up clinic.

Improve and maintain standards of care within the myeloma speciality.

Develop the skills of nurses such as the ward and day unit nursing teams to enable them to provide a high standard of care for patients living with myeloma.
