The Department of Music is inviting applications for experienced and inspiring Instrumental and Vocal teachers to deliver performance teaching to undergraduate and masters students across a range of instrumental and vocal styles, primarily classical, jazz and (for vocalists) musical theatre. These roles play an important role in providing specialist teaching delivery to students who have opted to take a performance pathway as part of their programme of study.
These roles are paid at an enhanced rate to recognize the expertise and specialist nature of the work and successful teachers will be asked to:
- Provide primary one-to-one learning drawing on deep specialist professional expertise and authoritative understanding of their field.
- Work independently in delivering own teaching and tailoring sessions to individual students.
- Help students to understand new and difficult issues arising from recent professional developments.
- Demonstrate deep expertise and authoritative understanding in the discipline and some teaching/training experience.
Instrumental and Vocal teachers - £ 47.66 per hour + 12.07% holiday pay
We offer tuition across a wide variety of instruments and vocal styles and full details of the performance pathways can be found in the individual unit descriptions:

At the time of writing, all Undergraduate students undertaking a performance pathway have 12hrs of paid tuition in their chosen instrumental/vocal style except that year 3 Extended Study Performance students have 18 hours of paid tuition, and MA student 24 hours. However, contracted hours will vary depending on the number of students opting to take a performance pathway each academic year and work available will be subject to students requiring a particular instrument lesson.
All Music Teachers will be asked to undertake some induction and training activities and these will be paid in addition to direct teaching hours. The induction will be held on Friday 18th September, 14.00 - 15.00, in person.
The closing date for applications is 1st June 2026 at midnight GMT.
- Please note that tuition must take place at the Music department which is located in the Victoria Rooms, Queens Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1SA. We do not cover travel expenses for teachers so please factor this in when choosing to apply. Teaching must take place within our core hours of 9am - 6pm. Our admissions to Music programmes varies year-on-year which impacts how many students may be allocated year on year.
