Full Job Description
Are you passionate about helping children and young people successfully return home from care? Newcastle City Council is committed to providing the right support at the right time to enable children and young people to thrive within their families and communities. As part of our continued investment in evidence-based services, we are establishing a new Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Return Home Team and are seeking an exceptional practitioner and leader to join us as a Multisystemic Therapy Manager. We already have well established MST Standard and MST CAN Teams and you would work closely with, and be supported by, the managers for these teams. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and delivery of a pioneering service that will support children and young people returning home from residential or foster care. The MST Return Home model provides intensive, family-centred intervention designed to improve reunification outcomes, reduce re-entry to care, and help families build sustainable change. The model works closely with families and wider systems including social care, education, health and community networks to support successful transitions home. About the Role As a Multisystemic Therapy Manager, you will provide clinical, operational and strategic leadership to a team of MST practitioners, ensuring fidelity to the evidence-based model whilst promoting excellent outcomes for children and families. You will:
- Lead and supervise a team of MST Return Home therapists.
- Ensure high-quality delivery of the MST Return Home model through regular supervision, consultation and performance monitoring.
- Develop effective partnerships with Children's Social Care teams, health services, education providers and other key stakeholders.
- Promote a strengths-based, restorative and relationship-focused approach.
- Support staff learning, development and wellbeing.
- Work closely with MST consultants and national programme leads to maintain model fidelity and achieve service objectives.
- Participate in the supervisor on-call rota in line with programme requirements.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with: - A recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Systemic Practice or another relevant discipline.
- Significant experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs.
- Extensive experience of systemic, family-based and behavioural interventions.
- Demonstrable experience of supervising, coaching and developing practitioners.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, children in care, and statutory children's services.
- Experience of working effectively in multi-agency environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commitment to evidence-based practice and achieving positive outcomes for children and families. Experience of delivering or supervising MST or other intensive family intervention programmes would be advantageous, although training in the MST Return Home model will be provided.
- Comprehensive MST Return Home training and ongoing consultation.
- A unique opportunity to establish and shape an innovative new service.
- Regular professional supervision and development opportunities.
- Generous annual leave entitlement.
- Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Flexible and supportive working arrangements.
- A strong organisational commitment to workforce wellbeing. Why Join Us? This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in establishing an innovative and evidence-based service that will help children safely return home and remain with their families. If you are an experienced leader who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and delivering meaningful change, we would love to hear from you.
