Full Job Description
To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements. It will be anticipated that some mechanical duties will be undertaken as training and experience is gained. Participation in the Trust's Estates tradesman on-call Rota to cover either site is also required. Scope of Duties: This post has no budgetary responsibilities., Maintenance craftsperson's will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialty. However, they will be progressively trained to acquire elements of each other's skills with the intention of achieving a competent and flexible work force. Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services., Maintenance craftsperson's will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialty. However, they will be progressively trained to acquire elements of each other's skills with the intention of achieving a competent and flexible work force. 1. Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and accepted good working practices in order to ensure safe and reliable engineering services. 2. Where necessary, carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the hospitals fixed electrical installations and portable equipment so as to maintain a safe and reliable service. 3. To carry out electrical portable appliance testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and the Estates Department schedule of inspection. 4. Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and ensure completion of all necessary documentation in accordance with Estates Department policies. 5. Where instructed install and test new electrical installations in accordance with the current electrical regulations and hospital standards 6. When required advise others on the correct operation of equipment to which you are conversant. 7. To record work information as required for operation of the CAFM management system. 8. Wear the appropriate protective clothing and footwear, uniforms, safety wear and equipment as deemed appropriate to the job and as required by the Black Country Healthcare Trust, Estates Department. 9. Where necessary induct and instruct other staff on duties in support of your own. 10. When required give assistance and support to other trade disciplines within the Estates Department to ensure an efficient estates service is provided. 11. To become fully conversant with the function of all mechanical and electrical systems within the remit of the Estates Department. 12. When required provide assistance to the mechanical and building trades staff. 13. When required participate in the gritting and snow/ice clearance of the Hospital roads and pavements. 14. Be able to read, understand and work from engineering and architectural drawings. 15. To carry out all duties in a safe manner, having regard for the safety of others. 16. To undergo all necessary update and health & safety training 17. To carry out routine testing of essential systems and equipment e.g. fire alarm, nurse call systems, steam raising boiler plant, hospital generators, etc., recording results in accordance with Estates Department policy and procedures. 18. Become conversant with the hospitals Building Management System to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and reset. 19. Participation in response/emergency teams for fire, major incident and any other requiring an Estates Department input. 20. When required drive the Trust vehicles. 21. To assist in the upkeep of a small electrical material store. 22. To be responsible for the upkeep, tidiness and maintaining of a safe working environment in the electrical workshop and engineering plant rooms. 23. Where necessary undertake training and operate any computerized systems that are used within the Estates Department. 24. To liaise closely with all modern matrons, ward sisters and heads of departments with regards to electrical maintenance and other relevant estates matters. 25. When required oversee electrical contractors working on site (This may involve organizing the isolation of electrical circuits for work to be carried out, to include the issuing of relevant permits etc.) 26. To assist in maintaining the documentation associated with the Hospital's electrical systems. 27. The execution of any other duties as relevant to the Estates services, which may be allocated by management. 28. Be prepared to be available, within reason, to work at short notice, out of normal hours, in emergency situations. 29. Carry out emergency lift procedures, as and when required. 30. QUALITY STANDARDS + Be presentable + Be on time, if working to a schedule + Leave the workplace neat and tidy + Be polite and courteous + Ensure customer satisfaction before leaving + Ensure dignity of clients at all times + To participate in multi-disciplinary teamwork to improve health-care provisions Any Special Requirements + Participation in an estates on-call rota, dealing with a wide range of estates related problems not necessarily within your trade. + Overtime may be required in order to maintain essential equipment/services. + Flexible working hours may be periodically required in order to maintain essential services. + Flexibility to work across other sites within the Trust on a short Term basis to assist with the efficient running of the Estates Department. Standard Clauses: The purpose of this post should remain constant, but the duties and responsibilities may vary over time within the overall role and level of the post. The post holder may from time to time be asked to undertake other reasonable duties. Any such changes will be made in discussion with the post holder in the light of service needs. Competence The post holder is responsible for limiting his/her actions to those which s/he feels competent to undertake. If the post holder has any doubts as to his or her competence during the course of his/her duties then s/he should immediately speak to their line manager or supervisor.

The salary range quoted is as per NHS Agenda for Change pay structures. This is based on the number of years' working directly within the NHS at the advertised pay band. Experience gained with other NHS Trusts will apply, but candidates without prior experience working direct for the NHS would normally be appointed at the lowest point unless they can demonstrate the equivalent experience and then be eligible for incremental increases in future years. Successful applicants for clinical posts up to and including Band 4 are expected to hold the national Care Certificate qualification and will be supported to attain this once in post.
