An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Scientist to lead MRI Physics at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role will provide strategic and professional leadership for MRI services, ensuring safe, effective, and optimised imaging across clinical and research activity. The postholder will act as the Trust's lead expert for MRI safety and governance, providing authoritative scientific advice and working as or in partnership with the appointed Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE) where required. This role includes establishing and developing the MRI Physics service, building workforce capacity, implementing robust policies and quality standards, and overseeing scanner performance and technical assurance. The postholder will collaborate closely with imaging, clinical, academic, and regional partners to support service development and innovation across Norfolk and Waveney. The MRI Lead Clinical Scientist will be responsible for establishing, leading, and developing a high-quality MRI physics service to support the Trust in both its routine clinical operations and research programs. This will include acting as the Trust's principal Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE), providing senior leadership, and delivering specialist scientific and technical advice to ensure safe, effective, and optimised MRI imaging services

The Imaging Department at NNUH is a large, forward-looking diagnostic and interventional service delivering over 400,000 examinations per year across a comprehensive range of modalities. Services include MRI, CT, ultrasound, plain film, Nuclear Medicine, fluoroscopy, breast imaging, DXA, Vascular Access and interventional radiology, supporting acute, elective, outpatient and emergency care pathways. MRI is a strategically significant modality within the Trust, with a total of 9 MRI scanners across the main hospital site, Cromer hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre. The service supports complex tertiary referrals, specialist neuroscience and musculoskeletal imaging, cancer pathways, and expanding research programmes in collaboration with academic and regional partners. The department has a strong culture of governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement, underpinned by investment in infrastructure, digital systems and workforce development.
