Move On Officer

As a Move On Officer, you will provide personalised, time-limited support to individuals who are ready to move from supported exempt accommodation into permanent housing. Working directly with residents, you will help identify suitable accommodation options, overcome barriers to housing, develop tenancy skills and build confidence to live independently. You will also work closely with landlords, housing associations, support providers and council services to create sustainable move-on pathways into the private rented sector. Funded through the West Midlands Combined Authority until March 2029, these roles represent an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative programme that will help transform housing outcomes for people who have experienced homelessness, whilst supporting the wider homelessness system by increasing move-on opportunities and reducing pressure on supported accommodation services.,

• Supporting residents to move from supported accommodation into settled housing.
• Identifying barriers to housing and developing plans to overcome them.
• Providing practical support around benefits, budgeting, household management and tenancy sustainment.
• Building and maintaining positive relationships with residents and partner agencies.
• Working with landlords, housing associations and support providers to secure accommodation opportunities.
• Maintaining accurate case records
• Supporting residents to develop the skills and confidence needed to sustain a tenancy and live independently.

These roles are fixed-term contracts until 31 March 2029 This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). You will have:
• Experience of working with people who have experienced homelessness, rough sleeping or multiple and complex needs.
• Experience of building positive relationships and supporting individuals to achieve goals.
• Experience of partnership working across multiple organisations and services.
• An understanding of housing options and homelessness legislation.
• Knowledge of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and social exclusion.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to motivate, coach and engage people who may be reluctant to access support.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
• A flexible, solution-focused and person-centred approach.
Experience of working with the Private Rented Sector and helping individuals access accommodation would be advantageous. This is an exciting time to join Coventry City Council's Housing & Homelessness Service. Thanks to funding secured from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), Coventry City Council are recruiting two Move On Officers on fixed-term contracts until 31 March 2029 to help residents transition into settled accommodation and sustain independent living. These new roles will play a vital part in helping residents successfully transition from short-term supported exempt accommodation into settled accommodation within the private rented sector. The programme aims to reduce barriers to independent living, increase move-on opportunities, prevent repeat homelessness and create greater capacity within supported accommodation services for those who need them most. The roles will also support the ongoing development and delivery of Coventry's Supported Housing Strategy.
