Full Job Description

This role is about much more than providing debt advice. Our clients may be experiencing financial hardship alongside housing insecurity, poor physical or mental health, disability, trauma, digital exclusion, low confidence or other circumstances that make accessing traditional services difficult.

That's why our approach is different.

We take time to understand the person as well as their financial circumstances, building trusted relationships and tailoring support around individual needs. We work with clients to identify and overcome barriers to engaging with advice, providing flexible one-to-one support for as long as reasonably needed to help them move towards greater financial stability.

You will support clients with budgeting, income maximisation, benefits, debt and financial resilience, advocating on their behalf where appropriate and helping them understand their options and make informed decisions.

We're looking for people who genuinely want to make a difference. Previous experience in money or debt advice isn't essential - we'll provide the training and support you need to develop the technical knowledge and skills.

What matters most is that you're an excellent communicator, a natural problem solver and someone who enjoys working alongside people to help them overcome challenges., We're particularly interested in people with transferable skills from working with vulnerable people. Your experience might come from housing, homelessness, health or social care, mental health, benefits, community services, advocacy or another support role. If you are compassionate, resilient, organised and confident working independently with people experiencing complex circumstances, we'd love to hear from you.

Location is important

These are client-facing roles based in Exeter. You must be able to work within Exeter and meet clients face-to-face. Delivery will include working from community locations across the city and, where needed, outreach and home visits. The roles are hybrid, with some home working available.

There are two vacancies within our partnership service, with successful candidates employed by partner organisations.

Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification for full details of the roles, salary, hours and requirements.

If you have strong experience supporting people but haven't worked in debt advice before, please don't let that stop you applying. We're interested in the skills and experience you can bring - and we can help you develop the specialist knowledge you need.
