Midwifery Matron

As a Midwifery Matron, you will be a visible, compassionate and influential leader, driving high-quality, personalised care and championing safety, innovation and continuous improvement. These are pivotal senior roles where you will lead from the front to create a culture in which both patients and staff thrive. Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, you will influence strategic direction and use data, insight and patient feedback to deliver meaningful improvements in outcomes and experience.

• Matron - Practice Education (Cross-site)
• Matron - Antenatal Outpatients and Public Health (Cross-site), Provide visible, inclusive leadership to promote a culture of safety, learning and accountability across maternity services
• Lead on quality, safety and governance, ensuring compliance with national standards and driving continuous improvement
• Actively manage clinical, operational and workforce challenges, using data and feedback to inform decisions
• Champion personalised, woman and family-centred care, improving patient experience and reducing inequalities
• Lead workforce planning, recruitment, performance and development to ensure safe staffing and a positive working environment
• Foster strong multidisciplinary and external partnerships to deliver seamless, high-quality care
• Oversee service performance, analysing key metrics to improve outcomes and operational efficiency
• Support education, research and professional development, embedding evidence-based practice
• Contribute to strategic planning and service transformation across maternity services, Lead the future of the maternity workforce in a role that places education, development, continuous learning, and patient experience at the heart of service delivery. As Practice Education Matron, you will shape a culture where staff feel supported, valued, and confident to deliver outstanding, personalised care that reflects the needs, voices, and experiences of women and families.
You will drive the development of a skilled and resilient workforce through high-quality education programmes, strengthening preceptorship, enhancing the student experience, and championing continuous professional development across the service - ensuring that learning is directly aligned to improving quality, safety, and patient experience. Working at a strategic level, you will embed evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and insight from patient feedback into everyday care, ensuring our teams are equipped to meet the evolving needs and expectations of women and families. You will play a key role in translating experience data into learning opportunities, supporting teams to reflect, adapt, and continuously improve. Matron - Antenatal Outpatients & Public Health (Cross-site) Drive innovation across the antenatal pathway in a role that brings together clinical leadership, public health, and patient experience at its core. As Antenatal Outpatients Matron, you will lead the development of safe, responsive, and high-quality services across antenatal clinics, screening programmes, and fetal medicine, shaping care from the very start of the maternity journey. You will play a pivotal role in improving how women and families experience care, placing their feedback, insight, and lived experience at the centre of service design and delivery. Through co-production and meaningful engagement, you will ensure services are compassionate, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of the population we serve. With a strong focus on reducing inequalities and improving access, you will lead the public health agenda, championing prevention, health promotion, personalised care, and equitable patient experience throughout pregnancy. You will ensure that improvements in outcomes are matched by improvements in how care is experienced. Working at both strategic and operational levels, you will use data, patient experience metrics, outcomes, and system insight to drive pathway transformation, strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration, and deliver measurable improvements in quality, safety, and experience. • Master's Degree or working towards or equivalent exponential experience at senior level
• Professional registration
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
• Neonatal Life Support, Evidence of Leadership course/management training
• Post-graduate management qualification and/or equivalent level of knowledge gained through extensive experience., Track record of delivering clinical quality improvements and successful service change.
• Experience of audit and continuous quality improvement.
• Change management skills., A sound understanding of National Midwifery / nursing and Patient Agendas.
• Up to date and evidenced based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
• Understanding of LMNS priorities
• Understanding and experience of regulatory (MIS, CQC) maternity standards
