Full Job Description

The Castle School is seeking an enthusiastic French Teacher to join our dedicated, passionate department. In this role, you will support and challenge all students to achieve their full academic potential through exceptional classroom practice and research-based teaching strategies. You will be joining a well-established department, where taking a language to GCSE is part of our curriculum offer for all students. In addition to French, our second language is German, and it would be advantageous if the successful candidate could teach some KS3 German. You will be responsible for teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4. You'll be planning engaging lessons that align with the National Curriculum and meet a diverse range of student needs. Beyond the classroom you will act as a positive role model, assuming responsibility for a tutor group and contributing to our vibrant extra-curricular and educational visit programs. As a collaborative member of the CSET community, you will work closely with colleagues across the trust to develop curriculum excellence and share best practices, all while upholding the highest standards of student safety and welfare.

  • You are a qualified teacher possessing QTS with proven experience teaching across a range of ages and abilities.
  • You demonstrate a clear passion for languages and a deep commitment to sharing this enthusiasm with young people.
  • You have a detailed working knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements and the pedagogical skills to translate them into impactful learning experiences.
  • You are a personable and approachable professional, capable of building effective relationships with both students and colleagues across the trust.
  • You are a proactive team member with a "can-do" approach and the agility to respond to the evolving needs of the school environment.
  • You maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation, implementing these policies with consistency and care.
  • You are committed to continuous professional development and are eager to take an active part in whole-school and CSET-wide CPD programs.

At The Castle School, we are proud of our strong track record of academic achievement and pastoral care for our students. Situated in Thornbury we have great transport links with Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and South Gloucestershire.
  • As part of a family of trust schools, The Castle School currently has 1,426 students and is shaped by our clear values, kindness, fairness and aspiration. This inclusive culture is reflected in our outstanding student conduct, a genuine sense of belonging and an on-site alternative provision that ensures every learner has the support to succeed. We have a thriving Post-16 centre, a committed junior leadership team and a strong track record of supporting our local community.

  • Happy, engaging students who thrive on inspirational leadership
  • A supportive trust and school community
  • Strong collaboration across the trust family of schools and access to a centralised team of specialists across all areas of school operations
  • A commitment to high-quality CPD, with dedicated time and budget for your development
  • A values-driven ethos where diversity, equity and inclusion are lived every day
  • Recognition of continuous service (modification order) to protect employment rights and entitlements
  • Teachers' Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and death-in-service cover
  • Occupational sick pay to support you during illness or unexpected emergencies
  • Family-friendly leave packages to help maintain a healthy work-life balance
