Full Job Description
Our club consists of two men's teams, competing across BUCS leagues, including Tier 1 and Tier 2. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape student-athlete development and contribute to a competitive and supportive performance environment. Purpose of the Role You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality coaching across the programme, working closely with student committees to create an engaging and performance-focused experience. The University of Portsmouth Basketball Club comprises of two men's team competing in BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) leagues. For the 2026/27 season:
- Men's 1st Team: South Eastern Tier 1
- Men's 2nd Team: South Eastern Tier 2 The successful candidate will deliver regular training sessions from September to April and attend fixtures throughout the season. Training Schedule All sessions take place at the Ravelin Sports Centre:
- Monday: All teams - 6:30am-9:00am
- Tuesday: Men's 2nd - 6:30am-9:00am
- Friday: Men's 1st Team - 6:30am-9:00am Fixtures are scheduled on Wednesday afternoons (times and locations vary). Key Responsibilities include: Planning and delivering structured, engaging training sessions (technical & tactical focus) Leading team selection and managing match day squads Supporting and attending weekly BUCS fixtures (Wednesdays) Collaborating with the club committee, including delivering trials Contributing to the development of a positive club culture
- £20-£25 per hour for training (dependent on Qualifications and experience)
- Additional match day fees:
- £50 home fixture
- £50-£80 Away Fixture depending on Location
- The opportunity to work within an ambitious and growing university sports programme
Essential: England Basketball Level 2 coaching qualification Essential: Excellent organisation skills Essential: A confident communicator who can engage and motivate student athletes Desirable: Experienced or knowledgeable in university-level sport
