Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our Gastroenterology team.

You will support ward based clinical pharmacy services at the John Radcliffe Hospital, working with clinical pharmacists and medicines management technicians to deliver medicines optimisation as well as supporting the fast-growing homecare aspect of the service. Key duties include medicines reconciliation, supporting ward-based dispensing, and helping ensure safe and effective use of medicines.

The role is ideal for registered Pharmacy Technicians accredited in medicines management, or newly qualified technicians looking to start their ward-based career. Applicants must hold the NVQ Level 3 (QCF) or equivalent and be registered with the GPhC. You must also hold accreditation in medicines management or accuracy checking; candidates with only one will be appointed at Band 4 until completing both.

We also welcome applications from student technicians in training to qualify as an MMT and ACT. Pre-registration technicians will remain on their student salary until GPhC registration.

Emma Heyden, 1. To undertake medicines reconciliation for patients
2. To improve the quality of clinical care to patients in the directorate by means of an efficient medicines management system. This will include the use of patient's own drugs (PODs), facilitating efficient supply of medications (including original pack dispensing), near-patient discharge systems and counselling patients about their medicines.
3. To support the clinical team in the processing of homecare prescriptions for high cost medications.
4. To provide a clinical pharmacy service that ensures the safe and cost effective use of medications, including reviewing ward stock lists.
5. To participate in the education and training of other members of the pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams.
6. To participate in audits as per Trust requirements, for example Safe & Secure Storage of Medicines and Controlled Drug audits.
7. To be an active member of the Pharmacy department and Gastroenterology Pharmacy Team ensure continuous two-way exchange of information to maintain high standards with the Trust.
