Full Job Description

Hours: 24.5 hours per week, 12:30pm to 6:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 12:30pm to 5:30pm on Friday. Some flexibility may be required at times. Contract: Fixed Term Contract effective 1 September 2026 dependent on continued EHCP funding and the student's attendance at the College. We are recruiting for a Medical and Learning Support Assistant (MLSA) to support a happy engaged cognitively intact child who uses a wheelchair due to a spinal injury and needs appropriate support to participate fully in lessons, activities and the wider life of the College. The MLSA is required for 1:1 care and support working in conjunction with another experienced MLSA. The key duties for this role include:

  • Supporting the child to safely access all areas of the curriculum and enhance pupil achievement.
  • To assist in a range of support activities in relation to the child's needs such as safeguarding, care, health and wellbeing.
  • To fully support the child's physical wellbeing through regular observation and completion of medical procedures.
  • Assist with intimate personal care, including regular 'Intermittent Catheterising' (training provided).
  • Safe moving and handling and engagement in active sports. This is a significant part of the role so personal physical wellness is important (training provided).
  • Assist and support with physiotherapy/stretches (training provided).
  • Liaise as necessary with the child's Form Tutor, Head of Year, SENCo and other agencies as required.
