Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our small Point of Care Testing (POCT) team in Scarborough. POCT provide and support an efficient and high-quality diagnostic service, providing analysers used by healthcare professionals at the point of patient care.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) working in POCT in Scarborough you will assist with the quality provision of the POCT laboratory service. This will include technical analysis and maintenance of POCT analysers, supporting quality assurance and troubleshooting., + To follow quality control procedures as set out in the departmental instructions.
+ To prepare and distribute samples for external quality assurance to ward/departments.
+ Receive and input quality control returns accurately and on time and investigate any missing returns.
+ To carry out routine and emergency maintenance and calibration of equipment both inside and outside the department as appropriate and to identify problems associated with equipment used to your managers
+ To work to a schedule but be able to amend plans based on response to arising priorities.
+ Communicate clearly and effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users on issues of a technical nature, referring complex enquires to senior staff as appropriate., As part of seeking to become more inclusive, we will consider requests for flexible working from the start of your employment. DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
