Job Description


The Role: Permanent Full Time


The Vacancy: Knowlton & Newman, part of the Rubix Group, are a well-established 24/7 electrical and mechanical engineering services company. They have a wide customer base and typically repair, overhaul, and install pumps, motors, and gearboxes.


The purpose of the role is to install, fit, test, assemble, commission, maintain, and repair mechanical systems and equipment. Also, to carry out work to the satisfaction of the customer and the management team.


Key Responsibilities



  • Analyse job cards to determine job status, work authorisations/limitations, estimate, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.

  • Test mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems.

  • Disassemble mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.

  • Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical assemblies.

  • Requisition of replacement parts.

  • Verify repairs using start-up testing procedures.

  • Retest reassembled mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.

  • Operate specialised equipment.

  • Work on customer sites as well as in the workshop.

  • Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.

  • Follow all company health & safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment.

  • Keep work area neat and tidy.

  • Carry out any other reasonable request from the management team.


Key Skills / Qualifications



  • Experience of customer site work, preferably in the Water Utility industry.

  • Excellent health & safety knowledge and application.

  • Well organized with the ability to multitask.

  • A positive 'can do' attitude with a flexible approach to work.

  • Being part of the call-out rota.
