Full Job Description
Seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Designer with a strong foundation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. This role combines deep technical design expertise with a vision for product evolution to meet clients current and future needs. This is ideally suited to candidates who have worked as design engineers for a number of years and have a deep understanding of engineering principles including calculations for airflow, pressures, structural, fan & filter selections, in addition to creativity in design balancing functionality with sophisticated technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining various equipment designs as standard product ranges, including the selection of components, bill of materials and working with the other engineers in the team to ensure alignment. Familiarity with pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, healthcare regulations, and technical product lifecycles is essential.
This role will focus on supporting the Research & Development team in the creation and launch of a new healthcare product range. Responsibilities during this phase will include the creation of conceptual designs, arrangements, detail designs, assembly diagrams and instructions and support the technical documentation team providing illustrations and instructions for the equipment.
As the product range is established and goes to market, the role will evolve to either continuing the R&D development of further products, continuous improvement of those product standards and/or supporting live order designs with customers.
Key responsibilities
Technical Design
Create conceptual drawings working to the defined scope. Advance full 3D modelling using Solidworks, detail design drawings for manufacture, exploded views and illustrations to aid assembly and manual instructions.
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and regulatory teams to ensure content accuracy and compliance with industry standards (e.g., FDA, MHRA, ISO, PICS).
Selection of components and working with the other engineering team disciplines to create the full bill of materials. Working with Production and contracts to have all information entered into the Production management software.
Calculations to support the system design and component selections. This may also include airflow modelling and FMEA Analysis.
Participation in design reviews and provide input on design and additional documentation requirements.
Process & Quality Control
Ensure all drawings and documentation complies with internal quality standards, regulatory guidelines, and customer expectations.
Maintain version control and implement drawings control systems. This may include the use of Solidworks PDM. Working within a gated R&D process.
Continuously review and update designs to reflect product changes, regulatory updates, or customer feedback.
Proven experience as a technical designer in the pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical sectors, specifically Aseptic and Non-Aseptic Containment Systems.
Working knowledge of cGMP, ISO, FDA and other relevant compliance standards.
Ability to understand complex scientific and engineering concepts and translate them into real-world reliable, functional products.
Proficiency in design tools, such as Solidworks, PDM, FMEA analysis, Visualize rendering software and Airflow modelling.
Strong communication skills
Desirable Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Life Sciences, Engineering, Technical Communication, or related discipline.
Previous experience in the design of Containment systems. H2O2 gassing systems and a working knowledge of calculations needed for the design of systems and component selections.
Knowledge of ERP systems beneficial, but not essential
