Why you should join our Team We are a large tertiary referral centre with more than 8,500 births each year across two sites, delivering a diverse range of services to our population. Within our community services, we support women and families across a wide geographical area, working in close partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide safe, personalised and continuity-based care from booking through to the postnatal period. Our sites offer specialist maternal medicine services, with level 3 neonatal facilities at the LGI site and level 2 at SJUH. We also provide choice of birthplace, including our 3-bedded alongside midwifery-led Lotus Unit at LGI, with birth pools available at both sites. As a Community Midwifery Matron, you will play a key leadership role in driving quality, safety, and innovation within community services. Working collaboratively with obstetric, anaesthetic, neonatal and wider system partners, you will contribute to our ongoing perinatal improvement journey and champion excellent outcomes and experiences for women and families. Leeds is a vibrant and supportive place to develop your leadership career in midwifery, offering opportunities to broaden your expertise, influence service development and shape the future of community maternity care.
What you will bring to the role You will be a visible and approachable leader, acting as a role model for midwives and student midwives across the Trust. You will demonstrate a high level of clinical credibility alongside strong managerial and leadership expertise, supporting teams to deliver high-quality, woman- and family-centred care. The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a leadership and management role within maternity services
- A strong track record of leading and delivering service improvement and change
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and decision-making skills
- A clear commitment to equity, inclusion, and improving experiences and outcomes for diverse communities
In return, we offer a supportive and dynamic environment, with opportunities to further develop your leadership skills and make a meaningful impact on community maternity services.
