Full Job Description

Wellington College is a world-leading independent boarding and day school. We are a dynamic, values-led community where ambition and collaboration drive excellence across academic life, sport, and the wider school community. Located in Crowthorne, Berkshire, with train and bus links providing easy access to transport connections, our 400 acre estate is a unique and inspiring place to work. You will play an important role in our school community, working alongside dedicated colleagues to ensure the smooth and effective running of Wellington. Your contribution will directly support pupils, staff, and visitors every day, and you will have access to development opportunities that help you grow in your career. Wellington College is looking for a calm, practical and caring Matron to help create a positive, well-run boarding experience for pupils. This important role combines the oversight of a house's domestic provision with attentive pastoral support, ensuring pupils benefit from an
environment that is safe, comfortable and conducive to growing independence. The post is for 40 hours per week, for 36 weeks of the year. Working closely with the Housemaster or Housemistress, residential colleagues, the Matron Manager and Domestic Services team, the successful candidate will lead and support the house domestic team. They will maintain high standards across housekeeping, laundry and the presentation of the house, while coordinating priorities, supporting rota arrangements and ensuring supplies and equipment are appropriately maintained. Clear communication, thoughtful organisation and a collaborative approach will be central to ensuring the house operates effectively each day. The Matron will also be a trusted and approachable presence for pupils, offering appropriate care and practical support in relation to their health, wellbeing and daily routines. They will liaise proactively with parents, tutors and pastoral colleagues so that individual needs are understood, and
will work closely with the Health Centre when required. Accuracy and professional judgement will be essential in maintaining medical, welfare and safeguarding records, managing agreed medication and first-aid arrangements, and escalating concerns promptly through the appropriate channels. This role will suit someone who can balance a range of domestic, administrative and pupil-focused responsibilities with composure and discretion. Experience of working with young people, within a school or boarding setting, would be valued, alongside confidence using digital systems and an awareness of health, safety and safeguarding practice. Above all, we seek a reliable colleague who brings kindness, integrity and a genuine commitment to helping every pupil feel cared for within their boarding community. Working within a busy and welcoming school environment provides a real sense of purpose. You will be encouraged in your development and supported with training opportunities, while working
