These are exciting times and with the recent expansion and remodelling of the Lewisham & Greenwich Trust Maternity Services, an opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Support Worker to join our Multi - Professional Team, in its deliverance of high quality care to our women and their families on a 12 month secondment/Fixed term contract.

Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and due to this, we have received awards for our service and midwives and have maintained a CQC rating of good since 2017 with our latest report by the CQC in January 2024 awarding us outstanding for Leadership and commending us on being a dynamic, culturally astute and inclusive place to work.

The role comprises of working within the antenatal clinic supporting midwives and the teamby maintaining a safe clinical environment. This will include assisting clients, phlebotomy, urinalysis and general housekeeping. All our staff work within our Trust Values, treating allclients and their families with respect and compassion and providing high quality, safe effective care..

A Maternity Support Worker post enables exposure to a wide range of skills and offers wide scope for professional development.. The role involves working 7.5 hour days, 2 days a week but you may also be able to pick up bank shifts in other areas once you have training

Main duties of the job

You will be based on Antenatal Clinic but may need to participate in the provision of cover for the unit, including flexibility to move within team areas as the service requires.

You will maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within your clinical area i.e. cleaning of rooms, equipment, making beds and keeping a good stock supply.

You will assist the midwives in the care of women/birthing people and participate in maintaining the general personal hygiene needs of women/birthing people if required.

You will be aware of the general condition and wellbeing of women/birthing people in ANC and report any deviation from the norm immediately to a qualified member of the multi-professional team.

You will maintain accurate records of all care provision in the clinical records.

You may need to escort clients to different clinical areas within the unit and act as a chaperone if required.

You will undertake phlebotomy and urinalysis and, if necessary, cannulation as directed by the RM.
