This is a pivotal Band 7 leadership role responsible for the operational management of our inpatient maternity areas, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care 24 hours a day. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide visible clinical leadership, support service development, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and excellence. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about delivering outstanding maternity care, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has the leadership skills to inspire and develop teams. You will play a key role in driving quality, improving patient experience, supporting workforce development, and ensuring the effective day-to-day management of inpatient services. Main duties of the job As the Maternity Inpatient Manager, you will provide operational, clinical and professional leadership across the inpatient maternity service, ensuring the highest standards of safe, effective and woman-centred care. Working in partnership with the Maternity Matron and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day operational management of inpatient maternity services, ensuring effective patient flow, workforce deployment and service delivery.
  • Provide visible, compassionate leadership that inspires, supports and develops staff, promoting a positive culture where colleagues feel valued and empowered.
  • Champion quality improvement, clinical governance and patient safety, using audit, learning and evidence-based practice to continually improve services.
  • Lead and support service transformation, implementing national maternity priorities and local quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with obstetric, neonatal, anaesthetic and corporate colleagues to deliver seamless multidisciplinary care.
  • Ensure staffing, skill mix and resources are managed effectively to meet the needs of women and families while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Support education, mentorship and professional development, creating an environment where staff and students can thrive and reach their full potential.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and compassionate midwife and leader to join our Maternity Services as the Maternity Inpatient Manager., Registered Midwife
  • Relevant Diploma/Degree or equivalent
  • Additional qualification or relevant experience equivalent to that of a masters.
  • Mentorship & further relevant study & expertise, Previous experience within relevant clinical area of practise
  • Previous experience in teaching/ training
  • Experience of analysing data to identify optional ranges and influence local decisions
  • Promoting quality improvement
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Developed Communication style which is effective, motivational and supportive, working with people who have barriers and opposition to change behaviour
