Full Job Description

As our Maintenance Technician (Electrical), you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our campus facilities. Reporting to the Estates Manager and working as part of the Estates Team, you will:

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance across College buildings.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in a safe and timely manner.
  • Complete maintenance tasks allocated via the College helpdesk system.
  • Support statutory compliance inspections relating to electrical systems and building services.
  • Liaise with and supervise external contractors working on electrical installations and repairs.
  • Assist the Estates team with emergency light testing, drain downs, and associated repairs.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with current electrical regulations and safe working practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of works completed, inspections, and compliance documentation.
  • Support minor project works and campus improvements as required.
  • This role is Monday to Friday, with working hours as outlined below. We are willing to offer flexibility in working patterns, job shares and part-time working arrangements, subject to business needs and operational requirements. Mon Tues Weds Thurs Fri 8:00-16:30 8:00-16:30 8:00-16:30 8:00-16:30 8:00-16:00

    We are looking for a qualified and experienced electrical professional with a strong background in building maintenance or electrical installation. You will essentially hold:
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (BS 7671)
  • You should be a proactive, reliable, and hands-on technician with strong fault-finding skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and a flexible approach to workload and priorities are essential. Experience within an educational or public sector environment would be an advantage but is not essential.
